In Reaktion auf die Aufhebung sämtlicher Patente für Medikamente durch Ghana wendet sich die Basler Pharmaindustrie, welche befürchtet, das Ghana billigere Nachahmerprodukte importieren wird, an das EPD. Dieses empfiehlt eine multinationale Demarche.
