Die Botschaft des Bundesrats beantragt ein zinsloses Darlehen von 11,3 Mio. CHF an die FIPOI, um den dringend notwendigen Ausbau des CERN-Gebäudes Nr. 40 in Genf zu finanzieren. Damit soll der steigenden Zahl internationaler Forschender im Zuge der Inbetriebnahme des LHC Rechnung getragen werden. Die Schweiz unterstützt mit diesem Schritt nicht nur ihre Rolle als verlässlicher Gaststaat, sondern stärkt zugleich ihre wissenschaftliche Präsenz und wirtschaftliche Position im internationalen Umfeld.
