Die Bezeichnung «Weltbank» wird unterschiedlich gebraucht. Manchmal bezieht sie sich auf die Weltbankgruppe (R23410), die die Dachorganisation für die folgenden fünf Organisationen ist:
- die Multilaterale Investitions-Garantie-Agentur (R33935),
- die Internationale Finanzgesellschaft (R10462),
- das Internationale Zentrum zur Beilegung von Investitionsstreitigkeiten (R23498),
- die Internationale Entwicklungsorganisation (R16862),
- die Internationale Bank für Wiederaufbau und Entwicklung (R586).
Manchmal sind mit «Weltbank» lediglich die beiden letztgenannten Organisationen gemeint, die zusammen effektiv die «Weltbank» bilden. Oft ist auch nur die letztgenannte Organisation gemeint, die Internationale Bank für Wiederaufbau und Entwicklung (IBRD, R586). Sie wird oft fälschlicherweise als «Weltbank» bezeichnet, da sie das Hauptorgan der Weltbankgruppe ist und auf der Konferenz von Bretton Woods 1944 (R590) als Erste der Gruppe gegründet wurde.


L’appellation «Banque mondiale» porte souvent à confusion. Parfois, cela fait référence au Groupe de la Banque mondiale (R23410), organisation qui chapeaute les cinq entités suivantes:
- l’Agence multilatérale de garantie des investissements (R33935),
- la Société financière internationale (R10462),
- le Centre international pour le règlement des différends relatifs aux investissements (R23498),
- l’Association internationale de développement (R16862),
- la Banque internationale pour la reconstruction et le développement (R586).
Parfois, cela fait référence aux deux dernières entités listées ci-dessus, qui constituent effectivement, ensemble, la «Banque mondiale». Enfin, cette appellation est souvent utilisée afin de parler de la dernière entité listée, la Banque internationale pour la reconstruction et le développement (BIRD, R586). Cette dernière est le principal organe du Groupe de la Banque mondiale, le premier à être créé - lors de la Conférence de Bretton Woods en 1944 (R590) - et elle est souvent appelée «Banque mondiale» par erreur.
